The trade-off. The published return policy says 14 days for eyeglasses while site banners advertise 60 day returns. BBB logged 2,003 complaints in three years and publishes only one in five of them. That is the single factor most likely to change whether this is the right pick for you, so we surface it next to the price rather than at the bottom of the page.
Pros and cons
What we liked
- Anti reflective is not sold on its own. The cheapest package containing it is Advanced at $29 over the frame.
- Progressive lenses list at $168, shown at $84 under a standing half price promotion, and 1.67 high index costs $109.
- Live Try-On covers more than 10,000 frames, home try on runs 60 days, and the warranty is 365 days.

GlassesUSA in depth: setup, features, performance and price
A full breakdown of usability, core features, pros and cons, performance, pricing and payment, and how useful GlassesUSA is in real use, written by the test desk that scored it.
Usability and day one setup
GlassesUSA is the most polished shop of the four and the one that most resembles walking into an optician. Branded frames, a large house label range, a virtual try on covering more than 10,000 frames according to its insurance page, and a 60 day home try on. If you have avoided buying glasses online because you cannot judge a frame from a photograph, this is the one built for you.
Then you price a pair. We used the Ottoto Annex, listed at $89 and on sale at $53, with the page stating single vision lenses are included, on the Annex product page. In the configurator the Essential 1.5 index lens package is Free. So $53 gets you a frame and basic lenses, with scratch resistant coating, a case, a cloth, free shipping and returns, and a 365 day warranty.
Setup asks for pupillary distance and the terms are blunt about it. If you do not supply PD, the company says it will use an average and that you agree you forfeit all rights to any claim against it, in its terms and conditions. Read that sentence twice. An average PD pair is on you, not on them. The configurator pre fills 62 and lets you send the prescription later, so nothing blocks you from ordering before your paperwork is in order.
What you get at the price and what is missing
Anti reflective coating is not sold as a line item here. It arrives only inside a package, and the cheapest package containing it is Advanced at $29 over the frame price. So a usable everyday pair from the Annex is $82 on sale, or $118 at list. Zenni charges $4.95 for the same coating. EyeBuyDirect includes it at $23. This is the single most expensive coating in the category by a wide margin, and packaging is why.
The whole lens system works this way. Polycarbonate 1.59 is the $59 Poly Plus package. 1.61 arrives inside Prime Slim at $89. 1.67 arrives inside Signature at $109, bundled with premium anti reflective and UV400. There is no route to a thinner lens without buying a package of things around it. Under our rubric a feature reachable only through a higher tier counts as absent from the plan being quoted, so the entry package here scores as a basic lens with no coating.
Progressives list at $168 and showed at $84 under a standing half price progressive promotion, listed among current offers on the promotions page. Bifocals are $69. GlassesUSA says its standard progressive is a digital free form lens on its lens page, which is a genuinely better construction than an entry moulded progressive, and it is fair to say the $84 promotional price buys a better lens than Zeelool's $35 Classic. At $168 list it does not.
Other add ons read from the configurator: blue light from $24, photochromic and Transitions from $49, sunglass tints including polarized from $29, super hydrophobic at $14, Screen Boost at $60 and prism at $30. Transitions from $49 against Zenni's $89.95 for GEN S is a real advantage for anyone who wants photochromic lenses.
Insurance is handled by eligibility check rather than direct billing. The insurance page asks shoppers to choose a provider and click a logo, and tells anyone whose provider is absent to apply for reimbursement themselves. FSA and HSA are accepted. EyeBuyDirect, which bills EyeMed, Aetna, Humana and Cigna at checkout, is ahead on this.
Where it beats the named alternatives
Frames. GlassesUSA carries designer and branded eyewear alongside its own labels. If you want a specific brand on the temple, the other three will not sell it to you.
Try before you buy. A 60 day home try on plus virtual try on across more than 10,000 frames is the most complete fitting toolset of the four. Zeelool offered no try on we could find at all.
Warranty length. 365 days, stated on the product page, matches EyeBuyDirect and beats Zenni's 30 day remake window by a factor of twelve. If a coating delaminates in month four, GlassesUSA and EyeBuyDirect will look at it and Zenni will not.
Where it loses and who should buy the rival instead
The return policy contradicts itself, and that is the most serious mark against this brand. The support article states 14 days from delivery for eyeglasses and 30 days for multifocal lenses, with a choice of refund, equal value exchange or 100 percent store credit, in the glasses return policy article. Site banners simultaneously advertise 60 day free returns and a Perfect Pair Guarantee described as 100 percent money back, on the discounted eyeglasses page. Both pages are the company's own. A shopper who reads the banner and returns on day 40 has a problem the marketing created. We could not resolve which governs, and we are not going to pick the flattering reading.
Complaint volume is the second mark. The BBB profile shows an A rating with accreditation, but 2,003 complaints filed in the last three years and 500 closed in the last twelve months, and the bureau states it publishes only one in five complaints for this business because of the volume, per the BBB profile read 14 September 2026. Trustpilot sits at 4.4 across 138,268 reviews. The recurring themes are production delays, long delivery, a confusing ordering system when you need to correct a mistake, and difficulty reaching support.
Then there is the discount architecture. Half price progressives, 25 percent off lenses and a buy one get one offer were all live as standing promotions when we priced this. A permanent sale is a list price nobody pays. We priced the sale, because that is what was available, and the list price is $89 for a frame Zenni's equivalent sells for under $10.
Buy Zenni instead if cost decides it, or if you need high index without buying a coating package around it. Buy EyeBuyDirect instead if you want a clean 30 day full refund, coatings included in the sticker price, and your insurance billed at checkout. Buy GlassesUSA when the frame itself is the reason, when you want to try it at home for two months first, or when you want Transitions at $49.
Billing, cancellation and conduct
One off billing with no subscription. Returns go through an RMA process, and the product page states free shipping and returns. We found no restocking fee and no exception wording for progressives, high index or final sale items, because the pages carrying that detail would not load. Treat those as unverified rather than absent.
Ownership is disclosed, but only if you go looking in the legal pages. The terms state the site is owned and operated by Optimax Investments Ltd. Trade reporting describes the business as a subsidiary of Israel's Optimax Eyewear, founded in Tel Aviv in 2008, per Global Atlanta, and a funding announcement names Viola Growth as the leading shareholder after $95 million raised, via PR Newswire. None of that appears on the storefront. A brand named GlassesUSA that is owned in Tel Aviv should say so somewhere a customer will read it.
On conduct, Esparza v. GlassesUSA Inc., Case No. 2:24-cv-10987, is a California class action alleging the site shared visitor data with TikTok through a tracking pixel in breach of the California Invasion of Privacy Act, reported by Top Class Actions with the complaint hosted at Truth in Advertising. We found no FTC or state attorney general action.
Verdict
GlassesUSA sells the best shopping experience in this category and charges for it twice, once in the frame price and again in the coating package. $53 on sale from $89, plus $29 before your lenses stop reflecting, against $23 all in at EyeBuyDirect and $16 at Zenni. The frame range, the 60 day home try on, the digital free form progressive and $49 Transitions are all real reasons to pay a premium. They are not reasons to pay this one.
What pushed it to third rather than second is not price. It is that the company publishes two different return windows on its own site, carries 2,003 bureau complaints in three years with only one in five published, and runs a permanent discount that makes its list prices fictional. Third place here, and the ranking would move if the return policy said one thing.
