Editorial standards

The rules we write to, including what we do when we get something wrong.

These are the rules our reviews are written to. They exist so that you can check our work, and so that a brand cannot quietly change what appears on this site.

Sourcing

  • Pricing, plan contents and product claims come from the vendor's own published pages, and the review cites the page it was taken from.
  • Company conduct claims, including fines, settlements and enforcement action, are sourced to the regulator or court record, not to secondary coverage.
  • Where a factual claim is contested between credible sources, we say that it is contested and show both, rather than picking whichever is more convenient.
  • We do not use vendor-supplied review copy, testimonials or press-release language as evidence of anything.

Independence

Brands do not review drafts before publication, do not approve copy, and cannot request the removal of accurate negative findings. Commission rates are not an input to any score. The full commercial position is on the how we make money page.

Verification cadence

Prices in these categories move constantly, so every price carries the date it was verified. We re-check published brands on a rolling cycle and update the date when we do. If a price on the site no longer matches the vendor's checkout, the vendor is right and we are out of date. Tell us and we will correct it.

Corrections

Send corrections to hello@selectopicks.com with the page and the specific claim. We check it against the source, and if we are wrong we change the page. Where a correction changes a score, a ranking, or a factual claim a reader might have acted on, we note the change on the page rather than editing silently. Typos and formatting get fixed without a note.

How this content is produced

Research and drafting are done with a combination of hands-on testing, documentary research and software assistance, including AI tools for research and drafting. Nothing is published without a human editor verifying every factual claim, price and citation against the source. Responsibility for what appears here rests with the editorial desk, not with a tool.

Conflicts of interest

Nobody who works on a review holds a commercial relationship with the brands in it beyond the site's standard affiliate arrangements. Selectopicks is not owned or part-owned by any brand it covers. Where a category contains brands under common ownership, we say so in the reviews, because knowing that two "competing" options are the same company changes the decision.

What we do not publish

We do not publish fabricated test results, invented scores, made-up user quotes, or prices we have not seen on a vendor page. We do not publish medical, legal or financial advice, and where a category touches those areas we describe what a product does and leave the judgement to the qualified professional you should be asking.
